In August 2020, L.E. Myers, Sturgeon Electric, and Harlan Electric crews responded to those in need after a powerful derecho (a long-lived, straight-line windstorm that can pack hurricane- or tornado-strength winds) swept across five states in the midwestern United States. The derecho caused severe damage and widespread utility disruptions.
Cedar Rapids and eastern Iowa were hit the hardest, suffering a near-complete blackout and severe property and crop damage. MYR Group subsidiary crews mobilized immediately and worked quickly and safely around the clock to restore electricity to the client’s affected customers, clearing rights of way and rebuilding transmission lines.
